In fact its often the most fun and quick way to spice up your love life.

The main idea is to create a visual frame around the bed and give a sense of height and grandeur while retaining that soft look, all of which are gained by using a canopy bed.

The first method that can be done in an afternoon is to use a mosquito or insect net suspended over the bed from the ceiling.

These are available at most camping stores and consist of a ring with shear netting attached to it that drapes from the ring over the four sides of the bed.

While this is still just a mosquito net it can be used as a decorative element by positioning it at the head of the bed at the ceiling and using the netting to drape and frame the end of the bed and wall.

Additional decoration can be added to the netting by stencilling patterns such as leaves or cupids on the netting.

The second method can take a little more time but is even more effective and increases your design and decoration options a great deal more. Using proprietary curtain tracks (these are available in all sorts of finishes from brass to timber to imitation wrought iron with finials) and attach them to the ceiling (your local hardware store or curtain track supplier will have the correct brackets) to create a frame over and in line with the edge of the bed at ceiling height.

Then as for drapery you can either use curtains or shears that can sit at each corner when open (giving the effect of posts) or when drawn allowing a soft and romantic light to filter onto the bed creating a very sexy and intimate space (aswell as stopping insects). A secondary pelmet can be made adding more detail. The type of drapery or shears available today is vast and it is very easy and cheap to change the material if you wish to redecorate or change the theme or color scheme.

First, there is nothing inherently sinful about wishing to acquire designer home furnishings. A problem could occur, however, if the funds used for such purchases are earmarked for everyday living expenses or for retiring current indebtedness. Luxury home furnishings are just that -- a luxury. However, if a person has the funds, the furnishings are definitely available.

One important principle in Scripture which deals with the issue of materialism is found in Luke 12:15, where Jesus says, ...Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Afterwards, Jesus tells a story about a man who has so many goods that he decides to tear down his barns and build bigger ones in which to store his treasures, not knowing that this very night, his life will end. Scripture calls this man a fool, for although he has many possessions, he is not rich towards God -- that is, he does not have a right relationship with God. This is far more important in the eternal scheme of things. However, at times Scripture commends those who make wise use of their resources or acquire quality items. The diligent woman in Proverbs 31 comes to mind, who because of her wise decisions and hard work is able to ensure that her family is well provided with quality clothing and food to meet their needs. Yet the rest of this chapter in Proverbs makes it abundantly clear that God, and not material goods, is the focus of her life. This is perhaps the crux of the matter: does one want quality items because they are a good long-term investment and meet real needs, or because one is seeking to outshine a neighbor or prove self-worth? These are the types of questions one must ask of oneself, and answer for oneself.

1. Unless you have a large home, select furniture and accessories on a small scale. They'll fit into most spaces as you move them around in your home. This will also make them easier to move.

2. Storage is in short supply in most homes. Select furniture pieces that offer drawers or hanging space, such as a chest of drawers or an armoire. They can be used in a bedroom, foyer, living room, mudroom, and more.

 

3. When furnishing a living room or family room, choose 2 loveseats rather than one huge sofa. They'll be easier to move and can be used forming a corner seating area, opposite each other to create a conversation spot, or separately in different rooms of your home.

 
4. Select a pleasing natural or neutral color such as tan, camel, navy, dark green, or black, for upholstered furniture pieces. This color will be your "anchor" color. Make sure the fabric is durable so it holds up under years of use.
5. Gather together a collection of pillows, fabrics, and accessories that harmonize with your anchor color. You'll be able to change the look with the seasons, giving your furniture a new, fresh look throughout the year. On a green loveseat for example, you might choose yellow floral pillows for summer and camel tapestry pillows for fall.

 
6. Use slipcovers to change the look of sofas and chairs without making a big investment.
7. Be creative with tables. Choose interesting bases and use plate glass for the top. Or make your own side tables (round or rectangular) of plywood, then cover with an undercloth of felt (for softness) and a decorative tablecloth of coordinating fabric. Use these in a living room or as nightstands by a bed.

8. Buy lamps, vases, side chairs, and pillows in pairs. They'll add symetry and continuity to a room. As you move, they will also offer the option of using each piece in a separate room if necessary.
9. Choose a color scheme and stick to it. Start with white or your anchor color and select fabrics and accessories to compliment the color scheme. If you carry the colors throughout your home, you'll be able to move furniture and accessories from room to room.
